Denver is the most expensive place in our data to advertise mental health care. Among 30 US metros, the Denver DMA has the highest average click price for "therapist" ($42.47), "therapist near me" ($36.94) and "psychiatrist near me" ($34.46, nearly double the national $18.16). It also tops the list for "dental implants" at $46.28. Medical marketing in Denver therefore rewards practices that can win patients without paying for every click: through Maps, organic pages and referral channels. Below are the local searches and prices, the people behind them, Colorado's privacy rules and a budget for a therapy practice.

Medical marketing in Denver: what's searched more than expected
Denver's usual share of US searches in this data is about 1.6% to 1.8%. A few searches stand well above it:
- "Semaglutide near me": 590 searches a month, 7.3% of all US searches for it. That's more than four times the usual share, the clearest outlier in Denver's data.
- "Concierge doctor near me": 320 searches, 2.6%.
- Physical therapy, eye care, med spa, audiology and hearing aids: each about 2.2%. "Physical therapy near me" (8,100) and "eye doctor near me" (9,900) are the high-volume ones.
Searches that run light include "cardiologist near me" and "orthopedic doctor near me" (each about 1% of US volume) and, notably, "psychiatrist near me" (1,900 searches, 1.15%). Psychiatry is both less searched and more expensive here than the market's size would suggest. The data doesn't say why, and we won't guess.

Every search in the main table except physical therapy costs more here than nationally. Two consequences:
- Therapists and psychiatrists should treat Google Ads as a precision tool: exact-match terms, tight geography, ad schedules, and a landing page built for the specific service. Organic pages and directory profiles do the broad work.
- Weight-loss clinics see unusual demand, but Google's healthcare and medicines policy (opens in a new tab) restricts prescription drug terms in ads, landing pages and keywords. At $35.12 a click for "semaglutide near me", check eligibility before planning around drug-name keywords.

Who your patients are: Denver by the numbers
- 3,052,498 residents on July 1, 2024, up 2.8% since July 1, 2020. Steady growth adds residents choosing providers for the first time. Make "accepting new patients" obvious on your site and listing.
- Median age 37.6, and 14.9% aged 65 or older. The youngest median age and smallest 65+ share among the Western metros we cover. Messaging can assume a working-age audience for most services; Medicare messaging matters mainly for specialties that serve older adults.
- 20.3% under 18. Steady family demand; "pediatric dentist near me" draws 2,900 searches a month at $16.36.
- 24.6% Hispanic or Latino (any race). Consider Spanish-language pages and ads where your intake data shows demand. Ethnicity doesn't tell you language, so ask your front desk what patients request.
- 5.2% Asian (non-Hispanic). A smaller share than on the West Coast; in-language content for Asian languages is a case-by-case call based on your own patients.
Colorado rules that shape practice marketing
The Colorado Privacy Act (CPA). Enacted as SB21-190 (opens in a new tab), effective July 1, 2023, at C.R.S. 6-1-1301 and following. As enacted (session law text (opens in a new tab)):
- Who it covers (6-1-1304): a controller doing business in Colorado, or targeting Colorado residents, that controls or processes personal data of 100,000 or more consumers in a calendar year, or earns revenue or discounts from selling personal data and processes data of 25,000 or more consumers.
- Health data is sensitive (6-1-1303): sensitive data includes personal data revealing "a mental or physical health condition or diagnosis".
- Consent first (6-1-1308(7)): a controller "shall not process a consumer's sensitive data without first obtaining the consumer's consent". Consent must be a clear, affirmative act; accepting general terms of use doesn't count.
- PHI is carved out (6-1-1304(2)(a)): protected health information collected, stored and processed by a HIPAA covered entity or its business associates is outside the Act.
- Enforcement: by the attorney general or district attorneys only, per the bill summary. Processing for targeted advertising or processing sensitive data also requires a data protection assessment.
Biometric identifiers (HB24-1130). Signed May 31, 2024 and effective July 1, 2025, per its bill page (opens in a new tab): a controller must meet disclosure and consent requirements before collecting a biometric identifier, and adopt a written policy with a retention schedule and a protocol for security incidents. The summary doesn't mention size thresholds. If you use face-scanning or similar tools, for example in an aesthetic consultation app, have counsel review them.
What it means for a Denver practice. Patient records you hold as a covered entity sit under HIPAA, not the CPA. But a larger group whose website, pixels or ad audiences touch data on 100,000 Colorado consumers may be a controller under the CPA for that non-PHI data, and health-related inferences need consent. Keep ad pixels off health and booking pages either way. And as everywhere, 45 CFR 164.508 (opens in a new tab) requires written authorization before patient information is used in marketing.
This is general information, not legal advice. Confirm how it applies to your practice with a qualified advisor.
The channels in order for a Denver practice
- Google Business Profile and Maps. 74,000 urgent care and 33,100 "dentist near me" searches a month mostly end in the map pack. For therapists, a complete, accurate profile captures searches you'd otherwise pay $36.94 each for. See Google Business Profile for practices.
- Your website. A page per service and per approach (couples therapy, EMDR, medication management) gives Google something specific to rank and reduces your reliance on expensive ads.
- AI assistants. Patients can ask ChatGPT or Perplexity for "a therapist in Denver who does couples counseling" and get named recommendations. Local AI search explains what those answers draw on.
- Paid search. Spend freely on cheap terms such as physical therapy and allergy care; spend narrowly on therapy, psychiatry, implants and laser hair removal.
- Meta. Better suited to elective services than to mental health. Meta's personal attributes policy (opens in a new tab) bars ads that imply a viewer's condition ("Depression getting you down?" is its own example of a disallowed ad), which leaves therapy ads little room beyond naming the service.

A sample monthly budget for a Denver practice
Hypothetical arithmetic for a therapy group practice. CPCs come from the tables above; the inquiry and intake rates are assumptions, not benchmarks. Use your own.
| Step | "therapist near me" | "couples therapy near me" | Total |
|---|---|---|---|
| Budget | $1,000 | $500 | $1,500 |
| Avg. CPC | $36.94 | $24.27 | |
| Clicks (budget ÷ CPC) | ≈ 27 | ≈ 21 | ≈ 48 |
| Inquiries (assumed 10% of clicks) | ≈ 5 | ||
| First sessions booked (assumed 75% of inquiries) | ≈ 3.6 | ||
| Ad cost per new client | ≈ $417 |
At national average CPCs ($24.19 and $16.43), the same budget would buy about 72 clicks, half again as many. That gap is the case for building organic and Maps visibility first: each first session that comes from your website or Google Business Profile instead of an ad saves hundreds of dollars here. Compare the ad cost per new client with what an ongoing client is worth to your practice before raising the budget.
How Medfy works for Denver practices
Medfy is software, not a Denver agency. It has no Colorado office, doesn't claim local clients, and charges every practice the same price.
- Base plan, $349 a month: your website rebuilt and hosted on your domain, with a page per service, structured data and HIPAA-compliant forms; weekly researched articles you approve or auto-publish; local pages; first-party analytics; Search Console, Google Analytics and Business Profile in one view; a patient CRM and inbox with access controls.
- Add-ons: Google Ads management for $199 a month, with daily search-term reviews and negative keywords, which matters most where clicks cost $36.94; Meta ads with AI creatives for $199 a month; and a HIPAA AI chat widget for $49 a month. Ad spend goes to Google and Meta directly, never marked up.
- Weekly AI visibility tracking across ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews, which can include questions such as "best dentist in Denver" (illustrative).
Patient information is stored in separate, encrypted HIPAA databases; Medfy signs a BAA before any patient data flows, and ad platforms never receive patient data. See Medfy pricing, or other cities under healthcare marketing by city.

What marketing rules apply to practices in Colorado?
The Colorado Privacy Act treats a mental or physical health condition or diagnosis as sensitive data that needs consent before processing, for businesses above its thresholds (100,000 Colorado consumers a year, or 25,000 plus revenue from selling data). HIPAA-governed PHI held by covered entities is exempt. A 2024 law adds consent and policy duties for biometric identifiers from July 1, 2025. HIPAA applies throughout.
