AI marketing for urgent care is mostly about accuracy at speed. Patients ask Google, Maps and AI assistants where to go right now, and the answers are built from your listings and website. If those say you're open on a holiday when you're not, AI repeats the mistake to everyone who asks. Searches like "ai for urgent care" are below Keyword Planner's reporting floor, so operator demand is small and early. Patient demand isn't: "urgent care near me" draws about 4,090,000 US searches a month, "walk in clinic near me" about 201,000 and "urgent care open now" about 14,800 (Google Ads Keyword Planner data via DataForSEO, US, 12-month average to Sep 2026).
In short: For an urgent care center, AI marketing means keeping hours, services, prices and check-in links accurate everywhere AI assistants and Maps read them, drafting seasonal content and ads faster, and answering logistics questions on your site. AI must never triage patients: emergencies go to 911. Keep patient data out of tools without a BAA.
What AI marketing means for an urgent care center
Urgent care runs on a short decision window. A parent with a feverish child or someone with a cut hand decides in minutes, often from a phone. AI shows up in three places in that window:
| Where | What AI does | What you control |
|---|---|---|
| AI assistants and AI Overviews | Summarize which centers are nearby, open and suitable | Your website, Google Business Profile and listings |
| Your marketing work | Drafts pages, posts and ad copy; reviews ad search terms | Review and approval before anything goes live |
| Your website | Chat answers to logistics questions | Scope (logistics only), BAA, handoff and 911 rules |

How patients use ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews to pick urgent care
People ask assistants the questions they'd ask a friend, combining a place, a time and a constraint.
Illustrative example (prompts a patient might type)
- "Urgent care near Eastside Austin open now that does X-rays?"
- "Where can my 4-year-old be seen tonight for an ear infection near Raleigh, and do they take Medicaid?"
- "Cheapest urgent care without insurance near Phoenix for stitches."
- "Is there a walk-in clinic near downtown Denver open on Thanksgiving?"
Assistants build answers from what they can find: your website, Google Business Profile, directories and reviews. Google says there are no special optimizations or schema required (opens in a new tab) for AI Overviews; pages must be indexed and eligible for a snippet. OpenAI says sites that block its OAI-SearchBot (opens in a new tab) won't appear in ChatGPT search answers. No one can promise an assistant will recommend a particular center, but each of those prompts can only match a center whose pages state X-ray hours, pediatric ages, accepted insurance, self-pay prices and holiday hours plainly. Our guide to AI visibility for practices explains how answers are assembled.
'Urgent care near me' and wait times: what AI can and can't know
Assistants can know what's published: your address, regular hours, holiday hours, services and prices. They're unreliable for anything that changes by the minute. A wait time copied into an answer may be stale by the time the patient reads it.
So publish what's stable and link to what's live:
- Stable: hours, last-patient time, services by location, X-ray hours, ages treated, prices, insurance.
- Live: your check-in system's wait estimate, linked from every page and your listing.
Then put the emergency line where AI can read it. MedlinePlus advises calling 911 for situations such as choking, stopped breathing or severe chest pain (opens in a new tab). A services page that says "For chest pain, trouble breathing or signs of stroke, call 911" gives assistants the right thing to repeat.
Hours, insurance and services: the listing data AI pulls
AI assistants and Maps answer from listings and the website, so the work is unglamorous: keep them identical and current.
- Hours and special hours. Set special hours (opens in a new tab) for every holiday on your Business Profile, and update the website and structured data the same day.
- Services. List every service on your profile and give the main ones their own website pages. See urgent care website design.
- Insurance. Name accepted plans on the site; "most insurance accepted" gives an assistant nothing to match.
- Prices. Publish self-pay prices with what's included.
- Check-in link. The same live link on the profile, website and social pages.
AI is useful for the checking: comparing your profile, site and directory listings for mismatches, and drafting updates. Our guide to Google Business Profile for practices covers the profile itself.
Occupational medicine and employer marketing
Employers and HR managers use AI assistants too, asking where to send a driver for a DOT physical or a new hire for a drug screen. 49 CFR 391.43(a) (opens in a new tab) requires DOT exams to be performed by a medical examiner listed on the FMCSA National Registry, so name your certified examiners and the hours they work on your employer page.
AI can draft that page, an employer price sheet and outreach emails to local HR managers. Contract terms, what results you share with employers, and account relationships stay with a person.
What to automate and what to keep human:
| Automate, with review | Keep human |
|---|---|
| Drafts of seasonal pages (flu shots, physicals) | Any assessment of symptoms or triage |
| Checks for mismatched hours across listings | Final approval of hours, prices and emergency wording |
| Ad copy variants and daily search-term reviews | Budget ceilings, radius and ad schedule |
| Website chat for hours, insurance, prices and check-in | Replies to complaints and reviews |
| Employer page and outreach drafts | Employer contracts and result-sharing rules |

Which AI tools are safe with patient information
Free and personal AI chat accounts come without a business associate agreement (BAA), so treat them as public: no patient names, visit details or lists. The four big vendors sign BAAs only for named business products, and the conditions sit on their own pages. As checked on October 22, 2026:
| Vendor | What its official page says |
|---|---|
| Anthropic | Its BAA article (opens in a new tab) covers the first-party API after a signed BAA and enablement, and Enterprise plans once the Primary Owner turns on HIPAA settings and accepts the BAA; several features are excluded |
| Workspace customers with a signed BAA can use covered services (opens in a new tab) including the Gemini App (excluding Gemini in Chrome) and Gemini in Google Workspace; customers without one must not use PHI (opens in a new tab) in Workspace | |
| Microsoft | Its BAA (opens in a new tab) comes through its data protection terms for in-scope enterprise services, which include Microsoft Copilot and Copilot Chat for commercial Office 365 |
| OpenAI | Its API data-controls page (opens in a new tab) refers to an executed OpenAI BAA and "BAA-eligible endpoints"; its help pages on ChatGPT business plans didn't load when we checked |
Terms change, so confirm before relying on any of them. For more detail, read whether ChatGPT is HIPAA compliant and our overview of HIPAA and AI tools.
How Medfy uses AI for urgent care
Medfy uses AI on the marketing side only, and it's built HIPAA-compliant by design. For an urgent care center, the $349/month base plan means:
- Accurate pages, fast. Your website is rebuilt and hosted on your own domain, with a page per service, structured data and HIPAA-compliant forms. 500 AI credits a month cover edits asked for in plain English, such as "close the Westside center at 3 p.m. on Christmas Eve."
- Knowing what AI says about you. Every week Medfy asks ChatGPT, Gemini, Claude, Perplexity and Google AI Overviews the questions patients ask, and shows whether they name your center and who they recommend instead.
- Content without the writing time. Automated SEO drafts articles each week from MedlinePlus and PubMed; your team approves them or lets them auto-publish.
- Numbers that match urgent care. First-party analytics count calls, directions, check-in clicks and visits from AI assistants; the AI CMO dashboard sends a weekly brief, and a patient CRM and inbox keeps requests in one access-controlled place.
Optional add-ons are Google Ads management ($199/month), Meta ads + AI creatives ($199/month) and a HIPAA AI chat widget ($49/month). The widget answers from your center's own information, captures new-patient requests into the CRM and hands conversations to your team, and it's covered by your BAA. You pay Google and Meta directly for ad spend, with no markup, and billing is monthly with cancellation anytime. Medfy doesn't answer phones, run check-in, send email or texts, request reviews or post to social media.
A good first step is the free AI visibility check inside Medfy's audit. It asks Claude and Gemini, with live web search, whether they name your center, and tests whether the crawlers behind ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude and Gemini can read your site. For Maps, pricing, seasons and employer work, see the urgent care marketing guide.
Frequently asked questions
How can urgent care centers use AI in marketing?
Mostly to keep information accurate and to work faster. AI can draft seasonal pages and ads, flag listing details that don't match your website, review search terms in ad accounts, and check what AI assistants say about your center. A person should own hours, prices, emergency wording and complaint replies. Never let an AI tool assess symptoms; anything that sounds like an emergency goes to 911.
Does ChatGPT show urgent care wait times?
Don't count on it. An assistant can only repeat what it can find and read, and a wait time that changes every few minutes is unlikely to be current in its answer. Point people to your live check-in page instead, and keep hours, holiday hours and the check-in link consistent on your website and Google listing so an assistant can send them there.
Should an urgent care website have an AI chatbot?
Only for logistics, and only with a BAA. A chatbot can answer hours, location, accepted insurance, self-pay prices, X-ray availability and how to check in, and capture requests for your team. It must never triage: any message describing chest pain, trouble breathing or other emergency symptoms should get an immediate instruction to call 911, with no attempt to assess it.
Can AI run urgent care Google Ads?
AI can handle much of the routine work: reviewing search terms, adding negative keywords, pacing the budget and drafting ad variations for policy review. A person should set the radius, the schedule around open hours, the monthly budget ceiling and the emergency-language rules, and approve new copy and budget increases. Judge results by calls, directions and visits, not clicks.
